Sorry, I haven't been around much...I've had either a cold or the dreaded swine flu without fever or more likely a super attack of allergies. Who knows, but at least I'm feeling a little better today and hopefully won't sleep all day and all night. I should feel rested!

S & H Greenstamps are still good

Remember those old green stamps your mother got when she bought groceries? Well, if you find any tucked away they are still good.

For those of you who have NO idea what on earth I'm talking about here is where you can find out what they were about. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S&H_Green_Stamps I know my mother in law helped me out with some books when I needed things for the kids. She was good that way. I saved them, too, but our stamp collection wasn't as much. I loved it when I'd get a bunch of stamps and could put them in the little books. It was really a feeling of accomplishment and it was one way of having a bit of disposable cash for myself.

The stamps are called Green Points now and here is the place to convert your stamps to points.
http://www.greenpoints.com/account/act_default.asp I'm not sure they are worth all that much. I just looked at the catalogue and a $10 card to Panera's is 11,000 green points. However, that is more than they would bring you laying about in a drawer. Here is the link to the catalogue http://www.greenpoints.com/catalog/cat_use.asp

Maybe they are making a comeback because of the economy...maybe just nostalgia. They were a big deal in my home sort of like getting something from Montgomery Wards in the bargain room. When we were in Boston and hubby was in meetings all day I went shopping. Filene's basement was still there then and it was pretty cool. I bought an art deco picture frame for a picture of my hubby when he was a child sitting on the paint shetland pony that I think was in everyone's picture during that time period.

Losing friends-updated

Once again one of our friend's has passed away. Her memorial will be this afternoon with all of us gathering tonight. It has been a very hard couple of years losing friends, but this one was relatively young. Actually she was more our daughter's friend than ours, but she will be missed a lot.

The cooler weather has continued all week with temps in the lower 90s. I've been planting some begonias the past couple of days that we found at a bargain. They will last until first freeze and that usually doesn't occur until the end of October to the middle of November, and frequently they will come back in the spring. Ahh...if it could be so with friends.

PS-It is nearly midnight here and this was one of the saddest days. Kathy was a quiet woman until she got riled and then Katie bar the door. There were a LOT of people at the bar where the "wake" was held. Actually having food, drink and catching up with others was healing, but we are still all a little raw and will be for a good long time. God has one of his angels back now. We were only lent her for a while.

RAIN!

Hallelujah!! It rained this afternoon and thundered and all sorts of lightning! It was a humdinger of a good rain. We only got .6", but it was all sorts of lovely! I'm sure it was because my husband accidentally shifted the rain stick the other day. We purchased it from an American Indian in New Mexico...or Colorado...or maybe Arizona...I can't remember, but it is a goodun! I'm sure it was not from the Navajo Indian woman at Canyon De Chelly. As I was walking back to our car there she was behind a very small shrub. I bought some juniper berry necklaces from her, because her ability to be unseen was mind blowing. I would not have made a very good pioneer at all. I'm sure she and her companion got a great laugh about the white woman on the rim of the canyon and how silly she was.

There is a chance for rain all week and I'm sooo happy about it. I'm worn out with this too long string of 100 degree + days we have had lately.

Gone Fishing

I'm going to be taking a few days away from the blogworld. This past week has been a doozy of a busy one and the week before, too. Getting medical tests done so frequently the techs are starting to recognize me, and filling out paperwork about insurance has left me without much to say and feeling sort of tired. It might be the long, long string of over 100 degree weather that is playing a factor in the fatigue, too. I actually would go fishing, but it is too hot to catch anything. PETA ppl please don't jump me for saying that....it is just a saying. I never catch anything much anyway.

Gentle listeners

I saw this over at Rocks in my Dryer, I think it was the other day and I thought it was very nice, even if I have no idea which version of the Bible it is from. They are sweet women trying to find their way rearing children and teaching them to navigate the world.

"God's servant must not be argumentative, but a gentle listener and a teacher who keeps cool, working firmly but patiently with those who refuse to obey. You never know how or when God might sober them up with a change of heart and a turning to the truth, enabling them to escape the Devil's trap, where they are caught and held captive, forced to run his errands.
2 Timothy 2:24-26 (the Message)"

In an attempt to calm myself I've removed some blogs from my list of blogs I enjoy. If you don't see your blog, please remove mine from your list. Life is too short to feel attacked over everything I post. What has been left in comments has been unpleasant lately, and I'm not patient enough to wait for God to "sober them up with a change of heart...." The blog world is large enough for all of us and I'm entitled to my thoughts, too. I don't have to conform to yours.

Rock and Roll

I want all cars built like these and especially mine! Everybody lived after this spectactular wreck.

TEQUILA AND SALT

This should probably be taped to your bathroom mirror where one could read it every day.

You may not realize it,but it's 100% true.

1. There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.

2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.

3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you.

4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.

5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.

6. You mean the world to someone.

7. You are special and unique.

8.. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.

9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.

10. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take another look.

11. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila and salt and call me over!!

Good friends are like stars.....You don't always see them,
But you know they are always there.

'Whenever God Closes One Door He Always Opens Another,
Even though sometimes It's Hell in the Hallway.

'I would rather have one rose and a kind word from a friend while I'm here than a whole truck load when I'm gone.

Independence Day

Today is the 4th of July, or Independence Day for those of us in the United States. Our forefathers risked everything to win our freedom from Great Britain. John Adams worked tirelessly on behalf of the fledgling nation, along with George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

The Declaration of Independence was actually signed on July 2, 1776 with only two signatures, and , two days later Congress approved the revised document. The rest of the signatures came later.

Much information came from this website.

What a Great Day

Yesterday was a much needed fun day for us. It has been so tense for my husband running back and forth to the hospital with his dad and after he was released running over to their house to make sure everything is going ok and they haven't taken a handful of pills or something. He needed a break for sure!

We went out for lunch at a farmer's market and had brisket sandwiches that were really good bbq. We really live the high life, don't we. That market is a nice one and maybe we can get out there again to buy some produce, since our tomatoes haven't really gotten with it this year. pfft

After our dining experience we went to the movie to see "The Proposal". It wasn't an academy award winner, but we thought it was SO funny, sweet and so needed. It was an upbeat afternoon. On the way home we stopped at Costco to pick up a few things and people were smiling at us so we must have looked very much relaxed or had toilet paper caught on our shoe. It was pizza and a diet coke for dinner and SYTYCD (So You Think You Can Dance) for the evening entertainment. The dancers are getting better it seems, and the judges are calming down some...at least Mia Michaels was a lot nicer last night. She must have been PMSy the first night. Sheesh

It was a very good day for both of us. Today I have an appointment with an ophthalmologist. It is time for new lenses and the rhuematologist suggested I get with a really good ophthalmologist because of the meds I'm taking. I'm thinking this afternoon will be nap time after my eyes are dilated. Yuk..

See you tomorrow....hope you have a fab day!
