Where have all the flowers gone

Did you see the picture of the Woodstock couple on the news yesterday? It was so sweet. They are still together. They married in 1971 and have two grown sons. They were the symbol of Woodstock, the couple wrapped in the muddy quilt in a sea of people. Like the photo of the sailor who had returned from World War II kissing the woman in Times Square, this picture has become a symbol of that time. I found the story again this morning on the AARP webpage, of all places. *L* It has been 40 years since Woodstock! The couple are 60 now. She is a school nurse and he works for Orange County Office of Community Development. The hippies have become AARPs....but they might have been young Boomers.

Of course, I didn't get to attend, but did buy the album. I'm not sure if I still have it or not. It was something else with Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Joan Baez, The Who, Santana (again in one week), and so many more. The Summer of Love seems so long ago, and I doubt it could ever happen again.

  1. I was too young to fully appreciate the whole thing. I didn't like Jimi Hendrix or Janis Joplin... I DID like Joan Baez and Santana. But it's very cool that THAT couple happens to be a success story! :)

  2. Melli,
I didn't care for Jimi Hendrix either, and it took a while for Janis Joplin to grow on me. I think it was after she died that I finally understood her.

The picture was so sweet last night on the news. I hope you went to the link to see them.
