Rainy Days

Oh man it is raining today and I love it! I'm going to open the drapes and just watch today. Maybe put something in the crockpot for dinner and go to the library to pick up the books I'd asked for through interlibrary loan. Those crazy Larry McMurtry's The Berrybender series is now out of print. The books are available at Amazon and even in a full price bookstore, but I think $28 + for two paperback books falls into the realm of "not gonna pay that much"! I had forgotten how stress inducing the library can be. My card had been purged as well as being lost by me, but it did upset me that the library had cast me out. They took me back in with open arms though. The deal is I have to read the books on their time schedule so sometimes I have to rush a bit to finish. I read the last or newest Blossom Street book this past week, so I can go pick up the ones waiting for me.

Scooter over at Atomic Zebra 7, gave me a prize yesterday, but I didn't get it put up yet. He is a real sweet guy, but there are a LOT of questions. Maybe, if I can stay awake long enough I'll get that up so i can link back to him. It is one of these kinds of days

I love this song by Jack Johnson ...nearly as much as rain. *happy smile*

Tornadoes and stuff

While I've been surfing around and reading your blogs I've had the Weather Channel on tv. I know that is really desperate, but I wanted to know if it is going to rain tomorrow. I finally looked up and they were having an interview with one of the guys on the Vortex2 tornado chasing group. Chasing is something I'll never do, but like the dancing shows, I love it when others do. I was a real fan of "Twister" the movie....even though I've never been in a tornado, thank you God! A couple of years ago I had attended a severe weather seminar so that I could call in severe weather...like I'd be out in it..HA! Anyway, they showed us how a tornado forms and what it looks like, etc. All day seminar that I thought would never end because it started so early in the morning. That is another post as to why in the world do things have to start so early in the morning. Anyway, back to the original thought process about the genesis of a tornado. The clouds start to rotate in a counter clockwise and sort of look "raggy". Imagine my surprise when a couple of weeks later I was coming home from work and saw the same formation right over the road I was traveling. I thought to myself that looks like that tornado....but decided I was just thinking about that class. Just a little after I got home that tornado touched down a few miles away. That was a very spooky.

We live in "tornado alley" here in Texas, and even though we've only had one big one here in Ft. Worth, that was enough. Our downtown area was like a war zone for a long long time....like about a year or more. One of the buildings was a high rise office building that had all the glass was blown out. Actually there was a restaurant at the top of the building getting ready to open for the dinner hour. The workers saw it coming and got to safety in time. However, the restaurant has now moved to ground level. Another story was about a church that had a Tower of Power where volunteers sat in the tower and prayed for people. The wall of that tower was blown completely away and the women inside were left looking out and probably offering up a prayer or two for their safety that day.

Anyway, getting back to the Vortex2 project here is the link so you can follow them on twitter or get a live feed http://www.norman.noaa.gov/2008/06/vortex2/

Or here http://www.weather.com/tv/programs/vortex2/streaming.html?from=tv_program_promo3 for more info

They are expecting to find one today in Kansas. Maybe it will be like the movie "Twister"....ya think?

Star Trek Adventures

Yesterday was movie day for us...we are trying to get back in the groove of going on Wednesday afternoon again. I've had some health problems since the first of the year and we just got out of the habit, but we went back with a bang! We saw the new "Star Trek" movie and we really enjoyed it a lot. Not going to tell anything about it so I won't spoil it for anyone, but there were a few surprises in it...actually there were a number of surprises in it. We were original Trekkies and didn't watch any of the following tv shows that followed the initial series. But we lined up on the sofa each week with the kids to "go where no man had gone before" with Captain Kirk and Spock on the starship Enterprise. Those really were the days and after the movie was over I told hubby it was like a time warp back to when we were 20something. My daughter who lives in Houston/Galveston area can't wait to see it, either.

I found out last week that I don't have gout, but do have rheumatoid arthritis and a number of other ghastly things that are making life pretty much a drag right now. The only reason I'm posting this is in case I'm gone for a while you will know why. The meds I'm taking are pretty yucky. Hopefully I won't have to take this stuff very long, but one of them takes 12 weeks before it will show improvement in the symptoms. The doc told me one would make me very sick the day after I take it, but it didn't this week. I was all prepared, but felt ok that day. Hopefully that will be the way of it in the future, too.

A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS.........

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters. We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs!

Mother's Day recap

Mother's Day for me was the whole weekend. We went to lunch with my youngest on Sat. and she came over on Sunday morning to make us brunch. She is very thoughtful and will have me in a mu mu before long...she is a good cook. Just kidding...she is a great cook and is totally health conscious.

After the brunch my husband and I went to my mother in law's for her Mother's Day. She liked her gift and we visited for a good long while. It is difficult visiting with them because neither my mil nor fil can remember anything for two minutes. I talked to them some about assisted living and that didn't go well at all. Not a big deal....she had forgotten what I was talking about later on. Something is going to have to happen in that situation, but I think it is going to have to be my husband who tackles it.

Our son had been in Louisiana to attend a wedding over the weekend. Our dil's not having a lot of luck with her fractured foot healing, so she stayed home with our grandson. She has even gotten one of those bone generator contraptions to help. I have NO idea what the bone thing is but I've seen them before, but can't find anything on google. My son's plane landed about 3pm so we me our son and grandson, and dil for dinner at Outback. It was all fun.

Our oldest daughter who lives in Houston/Galveston area sent beautiful roses with a small box of candy. She, too had been in Louisiana this past weekend. Her best friend's mother's birthday was this weekend and it was the first since her husband had died earlier this year. Janet, the friend, wanted C, my daughter to drive with her. They all had a good time and it was good that Janet's mother had the girls there to keep her mind busy.
