Catching up

We have been shopping for replacement windows for our home and have been having sales people bringing samples for us to examine. It has been a very time consuming and a pretty sharp learning curve for us. Who knew there was so much to a window. The salespeople gave us addresses where we could look at their installations. I'm so glad they did, because all the ones we saw looked dreadful and we are talking very high end windows. We have had to regroup and look at some other windows.

Our ice storm was very brief and didn't inconvenience us at all, since we didn't have to drive anywhere. Those that did had troubles, though. On the other hand, Judy at Living on The Other Side of the Hill posted yesterday she has electricity again after not having any since last Tuesday, I think. She says there are trees leaning on the electric lines and doesn't know for how long it will last. Some folks won't have electricity for weeks. Tomorrow is Ground Hog day and we will see about how much more cold there will be.

Our plans for Super Bowl are minimal. We will watch it, but no party, or big food spread, or beer bashes. We did get 3-D glasses to see the commercials. Truly we are living La Vida Loca.

  1. Oh man! We need new windows in this house in the worst kind of way! I don't even want to THINK about that expense! WHAT was so dreadful about the way the replacements you looked at were done? You should have taken PICTURES to SHOW us! I want to know what to watch for! Not that we are anywhere NEAR in the market for them... though I would LOVE to be!

I don't want you to think I forgot about you -- I AM working on your questions! I've got 3 so far!

  2. Melli,
I just don't like the look of the double hung replacement windows. They would make cleaning so nice and much easier, but they put the windows all together when there are more than one and the sides look WAY too big when there are two or more. Not much actual window and LOTS of edege. I'm thiking we are going to go with single hung and be done with it. I think they look much nicer. The bottom window tilts in and I'll just have to deal with the top ones when I can. We really don't need much more than we have and if they work just a little better....well that will be great. It does get hot in the summer and cold in the winter, cold doesn't last long, but hot does. We have blinds and stuff to keep the sun out, that helps keep it cooler in the house.

No rush on the questions, k. I'll email you.

  5. So, just now, with the Superbowl half way over, I tell OC we were supposed to have 3-D glasses and that punched his grouch button big time. But of course it would. He hates commercials!
