Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Games People Play

It’s Saturday 9 time. I would like to send a big thank you to Crazy Sam at Saturday 9 for hosting this meme. It’s fun and relatively easy. To read the other participants entries or to participate yourself, click the link just mentioned or the picture above. The rules are simple:

What we’ve committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do “random questions,” so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don’t have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today’s meme!

I actually stole this from Thom after I saw it at Melli's.

1. What was your favorite active game as a child? Red Rover

2. What was your favorite board game as a child?
Monopoly or dominoes I guess dominoes isn't really a board game, but it taught me to add.

3. Tell us about a friend you played these games with in your youth.
My best friend back then was Jan Mayo and we played together most everyday for several years, then she moved.

4. What is your favorite card game?
Canasta...my mother and I used to play during the hot Texas summer afternoons. I have a lot of really good memories of that.

5. What board games do you enjoy now?
My husband and I don't really play board games, but we did give Trouble a run last winter.

6. Do you play video games? Which ones?
We hardly ever play video games . I like Bejeweled, but I'm not sure that is a video game. We sort of lost interest while playing "Myst" ages ago.

7. Tell us about the friends you play games with now.
My husband is my game player opponent now. Sometimes my grandson will play Trouble with me.

8. Do you play any sports now?
No...alas I've gotten a little old and stiff.

9. What’s your favorite sport to watch?
I enjoy some baseball, some NASCAR, and when sailing, equestrian jumping events, surfing ,or golf are on...I do enjoy watching them. Not so much from start to finish, but in and out.

  1. I HATED red rover! I was always the smallest in the class and those big kids would go right thru my arms, or worse make me me try to kill my self going to the other side. The only game more abusive than red rover is dodge ball...lol

  2. PJ-LOL...I guess that is why I liked it...I'm much bigger than you are. I wasn't much of a fan of dodge ball....that's for sure.

  3. ROFL at PJ! Poooooor little thing! I guess I liked it cuz I was one of the BIGGER kids! (((ooooops! You said that!))) HAHAHA!!!! No... I never cared for dodge ball either! Nor Monkey in the Middle!

Games like Trouble bore me. There's not enough strategy to them. I like having to think!

  5. Okay, I've seen this meme 4 times in the last 15 minutes, and the song in permanently implanted in my brain:

Oh the games people play, now,
Every night and every day, now,
Never meaning what they say, now.
    Never sayin' what they mean.
Oh they while away their hours
    In their ivory towers
'Til they're covered up with flowers
In the back of some black limousine.

When my nephew was 7, he beat me at chess. Don't underestimate your gandkid -- he may be playing trouble to humor YOU! LOL!

  6. I wasn't too crazy about playground games as I was a small child in stature and weight then.

I love watching football and some golf.

I planed some checkers and dominoes--not found of either, but I loved Scrabble.

Today I occasionally play FreeCell on computer.

  7. Great answers Amber. I also liked Monopoly. Now I'm going to have this song, thanks to Q on my brain...all day long I'm sure :)

  8. Oh yes...thank you, Quilly for the songfest as we all sing in unison The Games People Play. My grandson probably was humoring me.
He is pretty good at most everything. Quilly don't you play any board games at all?

NW1-I really liked Scabble and was very good at it. We used to play sometimes, but my husband doesn't spell as well as I, so not so much. He like dominoes better.

Thom-thanks and thanks for the meme. I had nothing for today...and didn't think much of anything was coming to mind.

  9. I liked Red Rover as a kid. We played it all the time. I enjoyed learning more about you. I took the test and it says I am a Pundit blogger. Oh, I liked Monopoly, too. Bob and I were wondering yesterday if we would enjoy playing Monopoly now! Have a good week.
